Cardiology

The Cardiology is the medical speciality dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the heart. Coaronary  care unit (CCU) is a special department of a hospital or health care facility that provides coronary care treatment medicine. Coronary care units cater to patients with severe and life-threatening  cardiac illnesses and  which require constant, close monitoring and support from specialized equipments and medications in order to ensure normal bodily functions. Coronary  care units are staffed by highly trained doctors  and nurses who specialize in caring for cardiac  patients. They are also distinguished from normal hospital wards by a higher staff-to-patient ratio and access to advanced medical resources and  equipment  that are not routinely available elsewhere. Common conditions that are treated within CCUs including angina ,Myocardial infaction ,cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac shock etc. Patients may be transferred  directly to coronary  care unit from an emergency department or from a ward if they rapidly deteriorate, and immediately require cardiac care treatment. Cardiologists are specialists in diseases of the heart. The biggest area of heart disease treated is coronary artery disease e.g. angina. Also treated are abnormal heart rhythms, heart failure, high blood pressure and some rarer conditions. Cardiologists usually treat heart disease with drugs. We are providing good health facilities to our comminities with a cometent and qualified staff. ETT machine for Exercise Torerance Test and Echocardiography facility also available.

Aims and Objectives

Enlisted below are the prime objectives of the department:

  • To provide outdoor and indoor facilities for poor and needy patients free of cost throughout the year
  • Enhance comprehensive Cardiac care delivery programme like Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation in the different areas of whole the District
  • To serve the community in control of cardiac diseases through preventive, curative and promoting measures by establishing cardiac care services in rural areas of District
  • To create awareness among the communities by distributing information related to cardiac diseases in local languages
  • To promote awareness generation program among school and college students
  • To provide Cardiac Services to the prisoner in District Jail

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Department have following standard operating procedures (SOPs):

  • Consultant will takes One Planned Round of the CCU along with the duty doctor to review/follow-up the old cases and examines in detail the newly admitted
  • Consultatnt will ensures that treatment prescribed is being administered to the patients
  • Consultant will plan and performs Procedures on specified days & time as per hospital policy
  • Consultatnt will performs emergency procedures on admitted patients as and when required
  • Regular Trainings of  Medical , Nursing and Paramedical Staff as per Departmental/ Specialty requirements / Protocols and work instructions
  • Plan of care  must be discussed with the patient and his/her family and be clearly documented in the notes especially the medication , diet & follow up
  • Systematic documentation of a single patient's history and care across time in CCU is mandatory and it is primary responsibility of all healthcare provider i.e. doctors, nurses, physiotherapist etc
  • Medical record of a particular patient is confidential and right to privacy must be respected at all times
